Last week\u2019s Pahalgam terror attack triggered a thought.
\nI know many will dislike it. But when has that ever stopped me? <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Twenty-six Indians lost their lives.
\nTourists. Kids. Bus drivers. Young women. Old parents.
\nKilled. In cold blood.<\/p>\n

But the media, the public, and the frenzy that is our national mood \u2014 picked one man.<\/strong>
\nNot the youngest.
\nNot the most tragic.
\nNot even someone who was on duty.<\/p>\n

Just a man \u2014 who wore a uniform once.<\/strong>
\nAn army jawan. On vacation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And that was enough.
\nBoom. National martyr. Social media face. Funeral with fireworks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong> Ambedkar Saw This Coming<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s rewind to 1949. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, in his Grammar of Anarchy<\/em> speech, dropped this truth bomb:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn India, Bhakti or what may be called the path of devotion or hero-worship, plays a part in its politics unequalled in magnitude by the part it plays in the politics of any other country in the world.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

And here we are, 75 years later \u2014
\nBhakti culture has evolved from just politicians to now dead bodies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We don\u2019t mourn equally.
\nWe elevate selectively.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We glorify some deaths.
\nWe pity the rest.
\nAnd in doing so, we turn tragedy into theatre.<\/p>\n

<\/strong> The Soldier Was on Vacation. Why Is His Death More Heroic?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t a jab at the jawan.
\nHis death is as painful as any other.<\/p>\n

But when we highlight his photo<\/strong>, frame his name, and feed the nation\u2019s appetite for symbolism \u2014
\nwhile 25 others become just \u201calso killed\u201d<\/strong> \u2014
\nyou\u2019ve got to ask:
\nAre we actually grieving?
\nOr just looking for our next patriotic fix?<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong> Remember the Great Abhinandan Moustache Wave?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guy crashes a plane in Pakistan.
\nGets captured.
\nReturns. And instantly becomes national icon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Songs. Salutes. Stickers.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the other two IAF pilots<\/strong> who completed their ops, landed clean, and came home like professionals?<\/p>\n

Yeah, you don\u2019t remember them.
\nBecause India doesn\u2019t do quiet competence<\/strong>.
\nIt does glorified crisis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong> This Is Not Respect. This Is Lazy Patriotism.<\/strong><\/p>\n
