One India waits at traffic lights.<\/span>
\n<\/span>The other India arrives with sirens.<\/span><\/p>\n

And if the sirens are loud enough, suddenly traffic laws, civic equality, taxpayer dignity, and common sense all become \u201cadjustable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday, I accidentally offended the Indian establishment in the most dangerous way possible: I drove faster than a VIP convoy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not cut them off. Not blocked them. Not abused them. Not endangered them.<\/span><\/p>\n

I simply did not disappear quickly enough from their line of sight.<\/span><\/p>\n

That was enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Somewhere between Shanti Van and ISBT, the machinery activated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Phone calls. Police alerts. Traffic coordination. Vehicle tracking. Instructions flowing through wireless sets as if Delhi Police had finally located an international cartel boss instead of a guy trying to go home.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Majnu Ka Tila traffic light, I was stopped.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>\u2022 \u201cPrison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

All because somewhere, someone\u2019s ego had developed national security concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n

And here\u2019s the funny part: the cops themselves knew it was absurd.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ASI was laughing. The inspector was confused. The head constable looked like a man trying to solve a math equation nobody taught him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody actually knew:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 what law was broken,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 what danger was caused,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 or what exactly I had done.<\/span><\/p>\n

But nobody had the authority to say:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSir, this is nonsense. Let him go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Not corruption. Not one political party. Not one convoy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The real story is institutional helplessness.<\/span><\/p>\n

India has inherited a colonial governance mindset where power must constantly be seen, felt, feared, and theatrically respected. That is the foundation of modern <\/span>VIP culture in India<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The British left in 1947.<\/span>
\n<\/span>The psychology never did.<\/span><\/p>\n

Somewhere deep in the bureaucratic DNA of the subcontinent still exists the belief that:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 the powerful move first,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 the citizen moves aside,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 and the State must demonstrate its superiority regularly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not through service. Through intimidation.<\/span><\/p>\n

We no longer have Viceroys.<\/span>
\n<\/span>We simply replaced the hats.<\/span><\/p>\n

And before anyone turns this into BJP vs Congress vs AAP vs whoever: stop.<\/span><\/p>\n

This disease predates all of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every government talks about empowering citizens. Every government eventually develops a section that enjoys managing them.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was not about the Chief Minister (yeah, the convoy was Rekha Gupta). In fact, I highly doubt the CM even knew or cared.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was about the ecosystem around power.<\/span><\/p>\n

The orbit.<\/span><\/p>\n

The unofficial culture of: \u201cDo you know who is passing?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

India\u2019s favorite constitutional amendment.<\/span><\/p>\n

And here\u2019s what privileged people often fail to understand:<\/span><\/p>\n

I got lucky.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I knew how to remain calm. Because I spoke respectfully. Because I could joke with the cops. Because they Googled me. Because they saw my media work. Because I had enough social signaling to not look \u201cdangerous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now imagine the same situation involving:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 a delivery driver,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 a student,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 a migrant worker,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 someone angry,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 someone scared,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 someone without English,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 someone without social capital.<\/span><\/p>\n

That one-hour inconvenience could easily become:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 humiliation,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 detention,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 violence,<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2022 extortion,<\/span>

The average Indian has learned something psychologically dangerous:<\/span><\/p>\n

Being innocent does not guarantee peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

And then we wonder: why are Indians so stressed?<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone talks about workplace stress. Academic pressure. Relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n

But nobody talks enough about <\/span>ambient national anxiety<\/b> and the <\/span>psychological stress in India<\/b> created by arbitrary systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stress of unpredictability.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>\u2022 any local strongman,<\/span>
