WhatsApp has solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

LinkedIn has experts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Half the advice comes from people who have never experienced what they’re advising you about.<\/span><\/p>\n

The problem is that fear makes bad advice sound convincing.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you’re scared, certainty becomes attractive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, certainty is also what many consultants sell.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes the consultant becomes the crisis.<\/b><\/h2>\n

I asked Vineet a question I’ve been thinking about for years.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve seen businesses, families and founders hire advisors who somehow make an already difficult situation even worse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it by design?<\/span><\/p>\n

Or is it simply how the ecosystem works?<\/span><\/p>\n

His answer wasn’t about blaming an entire profession.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was about understanding incentives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some advisors reduce complexity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Others increase dependency.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some explain the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Others explain the disaster.<\/span><\/p>\n

A good consultant leaves you more informed than frightened.<\/span><\/p>\n

A bad one leaves you convinced that only they can save you.<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s an expensive difference\u2014and one of the most overlooked aspects of <\/span>business crisis management<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most legal fear comes from myths.<\/b><\/h2>\n

One story Vineet shared made me smile.<\/span><\/p>\n

The system doesn’t always know how to deal with modern problems.<\/b><\/h2>\n

During our conversation, I shared one of my own experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I have written before while reflecting on<\/span> leadership when systems fail<\/span><\/a>, one of our Google Ads accounts was hacked.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearly \u20b918 crore worth of advertising spend became part of a nightmare that involved cybercrime authorities, Google and multiple systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

The responses were fascinating.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cybercrime authorities explained that it wasn’t identity theft.<\/span><\/p>\n

It also wasn’t financial fraud because money hadn’t been withdrawn directly from our bank account.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google acknowledged the issue but couldn’t provide details because the campaigns sat outside our advertising hierarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone had a process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody had a solution.<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s when you realise something important.<\/span><\/p>\n

Systems are designed around categories.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reality rarely fits inside them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The more technology evolves, the more these gaps become visible.<\/span><\/p>\n

As<\/span> AI-powered fraud and impersonation<\/span><\/a> become increasingly convincing, <\/span>cybercrime risk for businesses<\/b> is no longer a technical issue alone. It is also a leadership, legal and crisis-management issue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Success quietly creates overconfidence.<\/b><\/h2>\n

One observation Vineet made deserves to be framed on every founder’s office wall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Businesses often don’t ignore compliance because they’re careless.<\/span><\/p>\n

They ignore it because they’re successful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Growth creates confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n
