Men’s Day 2013. I want it now. Period.
I just want to receive wishes. Gifts wouldn’t hurt.
I want an International Men’s Day. There, I said it.
I am just envious of the attention that women seem to enjoy at virtual all these “days”. There’s Raksha Bandhan, Bhaiya Dooj, Mother’s Day and Women’s Day. Father’s Day, you said?
It is me, the Man who is NOT in a power of position in this day and age.
I once had a chance to be a part of a “multi-cultural” seminar in USA. The purpose of the seminar was to bring together people from various cultures. Attending the event were Asians, Indians, African-Americans, Europeans, Hispanics and only one white American male.
He stood up at the time and expressed confusion and wonderment at how he had come to be a minority.
I sympathized with him then. I empathize with him now.
It’s been more than a week since we all celebrated the International Women’s Day in all its (marketing) glory!
A group of girls asked me to treat them to lunch on the day.
I said it then and I will say it today: “if it is your day, dear women, isn’t it incumbent upon you to treat me to lunch if you are really in power”[1]. Silence. We moved on.[2]
But I will not move on today.
I declare a Men’s Day. UN says, it celebrates their “Men’s Day” on 19th November. That’s too far for me to wait.
